After waiting until 7pm on March 31st without getting my email with the download details, I visited Software MacKiev’s Facebook page to see if they had posted any updates about the program availability. When you go through their site to purchase, you ARE given this option…but if you want it, it will cost you an extra $20 on top of what you’re already paying for the program. First of all, the option to sync to Ancestry from multiple computers is NOT a standard feature of the new version, and they don’t make that clear in their email. The idea was that TreeSync would be discontinued on midnight at the end of March 29th, and the new FamilySync with FTM2017 would be available for download via an email sent to you on March 31st.ġ. I was advised that if I pre-ordered the new version before its March 31st release date, I would get a $10 discount, so I pre-ordered it. The info they provided indicated that TreeSync would be replaced by FamilySync, which would also search FamilySearch, and would allow you to be able to sync your tree to from multiple computers. While initially disappointed by the short notice, I was excited about some of the new features they indicated would be available in the new version, like the ability to color-code. If I wanted to continue to sync my tree to Ancestry, I would need to purchase their new version, Family Tree Maker 2017.

I received an email from Software MacKiev, the new company in charge of Family Tree Maker, on March 24th, with the surprise information that in just 5 days, on March 29th, my current version of Family Tree Maker would no longer be able to sync to.
